The main purpose of this study is to collect liver samples using a technique called narrow gauge core needle biopsy to determine if this method can produce sufficient and reproducible levels of genomic material from patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). The narrow-gauge needle biopsy procedure is considered investigational because the gauge of the needle used is smaller than the needle used for a standard core needle liver biopsy. You will also receive a standard core needle liver biopsy.
The study will last for a maximum of approximately 6 weeks (43 days) if participants attend both visit 1 and visit 2. All study participants will participate in the first site visit and the follow-up phone call that will happen the next day. But only some participants will be invited back for the second visit. If your study investigator confirms that you have NASH based on the biopsy results from the standard core needle liver biopsy, you may be invited back for a second site visit. This visit would be scheduled to take place about 28 days after the first study visit.
- Male or Female:
- Between the ages of 18 and 75
- Documented history of NASH
- Clinical suspicion of NASH
- Diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes
- BMI lower than 40
Study Participants may receive:
- Compensation of up to $837 if all visits are completed
